Wearable Payment Devices — Innovation Pilot
Description
Gazprombank became the first major Russian bank to launch Mastercard card payments via wearable devices — smartwatches, fitness bands, payment rings, and key fobs. The project was part of the bank's broader innovation agenda to expand contactless payment options beyond smartphones, driven by pandemic-era demand for touch-free interactions. The technology used tokenisation: the card number was replaced with a unique identifier during transactions, ensuring security without storing card data on the device.
My Role
Owned requirements definition for the wearable payments pilot as part of the Corporate Innovation team — translated tokenisation and contactless UX requirements into a rollout-ready solution, coordinating directly with hardware and payment partners. Presented as part of the Innovation portfolio at major tech events.
